Origin of Human Beings : A dialogue between me and my eight year old son

This dialogue took place in our home in Calcutta in a lazy summer afternoon :

Son : Where was the first dynosaur ?

Father : I don’t know

Son : No… the first one from which all dynosuars came

Father : You see – I dont know. But I am telling you what I heard from various sources. According to most of the scientists everything started from an explosion called Big Bang long time back. Then slowly everything came. The first animal was suddenly born in a sea which can be seen under microscope and from these small animals, everything came – your dynosuar. However, as per Vedic Literature, life comes from life. First Life is God – called Krishna. One of his expansion, Mahavishnu breathed out and millions of universes came out of his breathing. He then entered each universe and from his navel created one engineer for each universe. This engineer or designer is called Brahma. Lord Brahma then  started designing this universe and Mahavishnu gave him knowledge by residing in his heart. From Lord Brahma came everything into these universes. After billions of years, Brahma will die (like we die) and then  the whole universe will go back to Mahavishnu.

So we have two theories now.

Son : Ok. What was before Big Bang ?

Father : As per the scientist theory : no idea. As per Vedic Literature : Mahavishnu or Narayana

Son : Where is Mahavishnu now ?

Father : Everywhere – inside an atom to galaxies and even within you.

Son : Where ?

Father : As per Vedic Literature : in our heart region

Son : Ah… He is running the battery there so our heart beats..

Father : Yes. But other scientists dont accept this.

Son : What they say ?

Father : They say that there are electrical signals from the brain that is controlling the heart-beat.

Son : Ok, but who designed the electrical system ?

Father : It came automatically as per scientists. As per Vedic Literature : designed by Brahma and back to God.

Son : It cannot be automatic… How can it be ? I have my computer which does not work automatically. There is software inside and designed by someone

Father : Yes, but that softare and electrical systems are very complex

Son : Yes, but do you think being complex it has to be automatic.

Son : If all automatic, then why do you ask me to do homework ? Why send me to school everyday ? Let me do everything automatically…

Father : Let us try…..

The above is not an imaginary dialogue – though little dramatized and essentials retained

It is the nature of human beings to question. The most-degraded person has questions. To enquire about our source is the only trait that separates man from a beast.

Vedanta-Sutra starts with this separation in Mind : Athatho Brahma-Jiggasa ?

Srila Prabhupada explains : After transmigrating in 84,00.000 species – involved in eating, mating, sleeping and defending, we have got this human form of body. A dog or cannot understand the sentence above. What shall I do now ? What is my duty once I have come to human platform ? I have passed through the eating-mating-sleeping-defending in other platforms of existence. Anything diffferent to do now.

Vedanta-Sutra emphatically and on this whole of Vedic Literature is unanimous : Now is the time enquire about the Absolute Truth.

And what is the culmination of that enquiry ?

The greatest Vedic Acharya of the aeon, an empowered officer of the Supreme Lord concludes

Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya

The purpose of human life is to do this special duty other than the 4 duties we are forced to do for being an embodied being.
